At Dartmouth’s Social Justice Awards on May 23rd 2023, John Turco, MD, a professor of endocrinology, snagged a Lifetime Achievement Award. Because, you know, dedicating over 30 years as the medical director of Dartmouth College Health Service and pioneering the Transgender Health Program at Dartmouth Health is apparently quite a big deal. Turco, who graced Geisel’s faculty in 1979, has been instrumental in shaping the curriculum for budding physicians to better care for transgender and gender-diverse patients.
Next up, the Emerging Leadership Award went to Josie Pinto, who’s currently working on her Master of Public Health at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. Pinto, the mastermind behind the Reproductive Freedom Fund of New Hampshire, has been busy helping over 400 residents access abortion services since its launch in February 2021. And let’s not forget, she’s been funding patients from 24 states post the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade fiasco in 2022. Quite the résumé builder, Josie!
Oh, and let’s not overlook Alisa Hurwitz from Dartmouth Health, who bagged the Ongoing Commitment Award for her psychotherapeutic magic in pediatric and adolescent endocrinology within the Transgender Health Program. Hurwitz, armed with an APA-accredited PhD in psychology, excels in family therapy and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, focusing on autism spectrum individuals and trauma. With a high incidence of gender diversity among people with autism, she’s found her calling in working with trans populations.
Now, onto the plot twist. In a revelation that’s sure to shock absolutely no one, a progressive lobbyist is paying a Democratic state representative to vote in favor of the lobbyist’s interests. The far-left magazine, The Nation, did some snooping and discovered that the representative hasn’t filed any of the required Declaration of Intent to Participate forms. Gasp!
The article also highlights transgender state legislators, including Josie Pinto, a registered lobbyist for the Reproductive Freedom Fund of New Hampshire (RFFNH), and her co-conspirator, Alissandra Murray. “Together, we sort of developed this theory of change, which was like, ‘If we want to see the state we want, we have to get our people to run,’” Pinto said. Quite the revelation.
But, alas, New Hampshire’s Legislature pays a whopping $100 a year — barely enough for a fancy dinner. So, Pinto hired Murray at RFFNH, giving them a salary to work in the Legislature while managing the abortion fund’s social media. In 2022, Murray, then 28, ran for and won a seat in the 400-member New Hampshire Legislature. They’re now the deputy director at RFFNH and also a Democratic state representative from Manchester.
Opinion: I think they’ve truly lost the plot. The desperate need for acceptance within their own party has completely overshadowed any semblance of a moral compass. This misguided prioritization is exactly why the Democrats are setting themselves up for a major loss in the upcoming election. They’ve become so consumed by their own radicalism that they can’t recognize its dangers to individual health and well-being anymore. It’s as if they only care about catering to the 1% of the most extreme voices, completely neglecting the needs and concerns of the other 99%.
You can’t pretend that reproductive rights matter when Dr Turco force a woman to get a hysterectomy, a mastectomy and gets a social justice award for his work.
A full range of reproductive healthcare will only be possible when lobbyists who profit off vulnerable women are removed from politics, and New Hampshire representatives stop taking their money.
